Note from the President:

        The course on Horticulture NC II is based on the National Training Regulation as promulgated by the TESDA Board.

         Our course offering blends the knowledge on conventional method of agriculture and organic agriculture as way to enhance the knowledge of the graduates on the various methods used in the practice of agriculture.

         There shall be a quick discussion on bio-dynamic method of agriculture, the Integrated and diversified system, the no- tillage and many other systems to expand the knowledge base of the trainees.

          More important in this  course is the requirement to produce a certain amount of products to be marketed, recorded and financial statements accomplished. This also incorporates the Production, Organizational, Financial and Marketing Planning.

           The deeper and more urgent purpose why these courses on agriculture, - horticulture, animal production and aquaculture-  are prepared and submitted to TESDA is the concern to be part of the effort to assist the communities recover from the destruction  of  "YOLANDA."

           It is our belief that rehabilitation and development from the ruins caused by this natural calamity can be augmented with the application of agricultural technologies among the affected people of the region.
           
.          The officers of the Action for Skills Knowledge Education and Wellness Center Corp have committed themselves to immediately implement the training programs as soon as the Certificate of Program Registration is issued by TESDA.


             
COURSE TITLE:    HORTICULTURE NC II
d NOMINAL DURATION:   1,440 HRS NOMINAL DURATION ( 5 - 10 mos)               Utilize Competency -based learning and Recognition of Prior leaning

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and desirable attitudes in horticulture.  It covers pre-horticultural farm operations, production of vegetable and fruit bearing crops, post harvest operations of major tropical fruits as well as major lowland and semi-temperate vegetable crops.  It also includes receiving, responding and participating in workplace communication, working with others and in a team environment, practicing career professionalism and occupational health and safety procedures, applying safety measures in farm operations and performing estimation and basic calculations.

The training duration of 1440 hrs or 5 to 10 months is nominal training hours as there are situations where a learner has previous knowledge and experiences in horticulture and recognition of prior learning can be aptly applied.

It is also important to note that horticulture as a sub-sector in agri-fishery completes the full cycle of an integrated and diversified farming system IDOFS.

In the era of climate change, the agri-fishery sector must adapt the IDOFS for communities to survive. It shall then be an obligation of TESDA and the training institution to fast tract the learning and training processes and allow recognition of prior learning and Competency-based learning modalities be applied extensively.

The RA 10068 focuses on utilization of available resource to support the effort in environment protection.

An agriculture -based training program must have horticulture  to supplement the animal production program of a specified community.

Choices of plants and vegetables must correspond to the health requirements and potential income and profit of a farmer.

Hence the course on horticulture is offered at ASKEDWELL to support the training program on Animal Production NC II and Aquaculture NC II
